Prosthetic leg 3D design

Prosthetic legs are nothing knew as they have been used as far back as ancient Rome to the present day the designs have change yet the idea and concept remains the same. Original design materials were metal and wood most modern models are made of metal, aluminium and polypropylene. The socket that attaches to the residual limb is made of comfortable materials such as carbon fibers to form the lightweight pylon. The pylons are frequently inclusive of titanium metal, this particular metal is sturdy enough to support the user’s weight whilst being light weighted to allow motion to be easy.

As most prosthetic models are designed and produced by engineers the functionality is limited in flexibility and the materials used are common metals such as stainless steel. With the innovation of modern day 3D printing that scans the entire body and then modified on a computer the designers can implement specific patterns and on polished metal. The idea is to help amputation victims to regain confidence in both the tactical and emotion way that can will fight against depression and embarrassment.

Industrial designer Scott Summit is the founder and chief technology officer of Bespoke Innovations the company was established in 2010 in San Francisco California with faculty positions in university of Stanford. Scott Summit has been working on these prosthetic limb designs for over 20 years with the assistance of an orthopaedic surgeon their main task in prosthetic is to create individualized limbs that the client can customize according to their will.


This women lost her leg in a motorcycle accident thanks to Bespoke and Scott Summit she has now regained confidence to wear her prosthetic limb in public without fear of embarrassment.
